Is a vacation to Jamaica in hurricane season too dangerous?
Q. I'm planning a vacation for my mom and I. We're going to Jamaica the first week of September 2009. Is this too risky a move, in reference to hurricane season? My mom's a little nervous about getting stuck on the island with a hurricane.

A. As you are aware, hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30. While no one can say you will or will not be hit by a hurricane during the period, odds are slim. With the number of storms predicted to be slighly less active, that reduces your chances some. Also, the second link, gives you a history of tracks. If you are scared to travel due to the fear of a hurricane, are you scarded to travel due to the chance of catching H1N1 (swine flu), a plane crash, someone breaking into your house while you are gone, getting sunburnt, etc. etc. etc. Hurricane forecasters at Colorado State University have lowered their prediction for the number of hurricanes they expect to hit the Atlantic Basin in 2009 to five, down from an April forecast… [cont.]

Q. 1) Jamaica presents an unhealthy environment start a business. Critically evaluate the truthfulness of this statement. Answer in terms of investment and entrepreneurship. I don't necessarily need an answer to this question, but I would like guidance how to answer it. For instance, what are the indicators or a healthy/unhealthy investment environment? Think about your own country or city. How would you approach answering the question? Thank you.

A. Jamaica is considered a third world country, so what is a first or second world exactly? Yet another question, no one seems to be able to answer. A third world country is simply a developing country and in the case of Jamaica it's a wonderful country to start a new business in. As a developing country I'm hopeful they will at the very least use their time wisely, to explore what the 'first world' have done incorrectly and attempt to overcome these issues prior to moving forward with further infrastructure and development. Thankfully, Jamaica has now realised that the financial hitmen from the US never did them any favours by lending them money to develop, and in turn financially raped the country and ruined futures by importing grain… [cont.]

He is very trustworthy and will take you anywhere you want to go on the island. I use him to go to Nine Mile and everywhere else. Just don't try to use him on the 9th or 10th of June :) Have Fun!!

A. Negril is the spot. But I'm not sure if it's worth just a weekend trip. You really need a longer amount of time then a weekend. Let's assume you live in Miami. Getting to MIA prior to flight--1 hour. Flight from MIA to Montego Bay--1 1/2 hours. Clearing customs and getting to Negril--2 hours. If you are lucky and catch a late Friday evening flight OK, otherwise 4 1/2 hours minimum gone on Saturday morning. Getting from Negril to Montego Bay, checking in--2 hours. 1 hour wait at airport. 1 1/2 hour flight home. Clearing customs--1 hour. Getting from MIA to home--???. If you are luck and catch an 8 PM flight from MoBay, that gives you a best case of 42 hours in Negril. As for staying in MoBay, there is no "city center", the… [cont.]

What is the website for a jamaica trip advertised on the tv?
Q. I saw a commercial for a trip to Jamaica. It advertised $99 tickets to fly to jamaica. The plane that was advertised was light orange or yellow, how ever u see it, on the side of the plane it said Jamaica..something. Could u please tell me where those tickets are available and or good tourist websites for jamaica?

A. Sounds like Air Jamaica, they used to run ads like that when I lived on Philadelphia. The $99 dollar fare does not include any of the fees and departure taxes, so the final fare ends up being about $290 p/p. also there are only like 10 seats per flight available. Get on a site such a kayak.com to find the cheapest air available from your city. Also, if you are interested in a full package vacation, check out skyauction.com, my wife and I took our 3 and 5 year old to FDR all inclusive with air and taxi included for $1900 total (yes that was with 4 air tickets). They have many similar deals listed but watch the junk fees (all are listed at the end of auction) Good luck and enjoy Jamaica, mon!

A. if i were you i would take the LIRR into penn station and then transfer, it will save you lots of time and is only a few more dollars then the LIRR (i did a test on the LIRR website from Mastic and the difference was $2). Make sure you buy your ticket before you get on the train, online of at the ticket booth/machine, they charge more if you buy it once you get on!

A. Well if you are sending charity you are supposed to have no problem or cost having them cleared at customs. The shipping cost from there should be dependent upon the weight of the package. Check the site below to see.

A. To start a nonprofit, you first need to get a very impassioned group of people together who support your idea and will provide some start up funding and serve on the board of directors, you need to get letters of endorsement from existing organizations saying this program is needed, you need to have data that shows your target group is in need whatever service it is that you want to provide and that they are not served otherwise, you need to have profiles of your staff showing they have experience and expertise, and you need to have a draft of what your first year's budget would look like (what expenses you expect to incur, what you expect to pay staff, etc.). You aren't going to have any money until you have donors, and you aren't going… [cont.]

A. I've been working with a few companies. They work with your budget and help you get exactly what you are looking for. One is Miles Morgan: www.milesmorgantravel.co. uk. I found them by searching on yahoo for beach weddings. The other company i found by going to an expo in London. Next time one is on you should try and go- they are so useful. This company is called Travel Designers and the lady i am dealing with, Althea, she used to live in Jamaica, i think. She specialises in Caribbean weddings and she has found a wonderful hotel for us called Half Moon in Montego bay- the hotel is quite expensive but they are very willing to try and bring their prices down. I hope this helps, and if i can help with anything else, let me know.

Q. My fiance and I would LOVE to get married in Jamaica. We have been looking online for places and a beach wedding would be nice, but also a wedding in the mountains looks absolutely breath taking. Any recommendations? Help!

A. I do not enjoy being the bearer of bad news, but traveling by train from Framingham to Jamaica, New York will prove a daunting task at best. Probably the easiest method would be to take the commuter rail to South Station and then board Amtrak. Amtrak to Penn Station and then switch to the Long Island Railroad. You would then take the Long Island Railroad to Jamaica. The Amtrak portion of this alone at minimum will take slightly under four hours (via Acela express), and this will be costly. I am hoping that you are planning only to do this once per week. If you are going to do this on a daily basis you will easily be spending more time in transit then you will be spending on the job. Good luck!
