Why did Nazis destroy books written by Goethe?
Q. We live in Berlin and visited the place where they burned a lot of books near the Humboldt University. I cannot understand why they burnt books by Germany's greatest writer.

A. The books of Goethe were burned because Goethe was a humanist who believed in the brotherhood of man. His belief that people must embrace one another for their common humanity ran in diametric opposition to the Nazi ideas of Aryan superiority.
