Institute of technology, and polytechnic, are designations employed in a wide range of learning institutions awarding different types of degrees and operating often at variable levels of the educational system. It may be any institution of higher education and advanced research or vocational education, specializing in science, engineering and technology or different sorts of technical subjects. It may also refer to a secondary education school focused in vocational training. The term polytechnic comes from the Greek πολύ (polú or polý) meaning "many" and τεχνικός (tekhnikós) meaning "arts". While the term institute of technology is often abbreviated IT, the term is not to be confused with information technology. Generally, if your country's first lanaguage is not English, you may have to sit for an English Proficiency test of which test may be set by the polytechnic or some accredited body for English Proficiency for non-english natives. If you have GCE or IB or SPM/SPTM or Form 5 (HK) or high school leaving certificate from your country, you should be accepted if your results are not too bad. (Entering a SG polytechnic is much easier than university). If you have a different qualification, you may be considered for admission on a case by case basis.
