Do the greek letters in fraternity names stand for anything?
Q. Are they acronyms for greek phrases? Or are they random? What does "delta upsilon" or "sigma alpha mu", for example, mean?
Asked by theMayne - Sat Sep 6 22:36:02 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They typically represent a motto, often in greek. These mottoes are usually secret, and not revealed until you are initiated. Some fraternities are 'non-secret' and the meaning of their letters is public. Delta Upsilon is one of these fraternities. Delta Upsilon stands for the motto "Dikaia Upotheke" in Greek - " " - which means "Justice Our Foundation."

A. To get scholarships and to get into more competitive grad schools, you'll need to do well on the GRE. Everything else seems to be in order. Your GPA might be a bit low. Saying you don't do well on standardized tests and resigning yourself to a low score is a cop out excuse. Anybody who studies for it enough time will do well. It's a test just like all the other tests you take in school.
